Marshall A. Latimore

Tennessee State University

Tennessee State University senior Marshall A. Latimore chooses to live by the quote, "Positive energy activates constant elevation." This has helped the Birmingham , Ala. , native strive to reach his goals.

In addition to pursuing a career in print journalism, Latimore aspires to attend law school, open a nonprofit organization and run his own media conglomerate.

Latimore said his passion for nonprofit work was inspired by his mother, an accountant and consultant for nonprofit agencies. He said that her undying love for aiding in community organizations fueled his own aspirations.

"I feel like nonprofit work is very similar to good journalism. It has lasting effects," Latimore said.

This fall, he will serve as a copy editor for The Meter, the university's student newspaper. According to Latimore, he is the writer who reports the stories that others are afraid to cover.

"I enjoy when a student on campus comes to me and lets me know when something hasn't been reported effectively. They know I will get the job done," he said.
