MIAMI — Add 23, 31, 33, 38, 52 and Powerball number 24, and get $105 million.

But no one played that winning combination on Jan. 7 in Florida, or in any of the other 29 states that offer the game. The jackpot now sits at $120 million for Saturday’s drawing.

Florida is the 30th state to join the multi-state game. Wednesday’s drawing marked the first time Floridians were able to play.

While no one became an overnight multimillionaire, more than 154,000 Floridians will collect more than $721,270.

“Give me the winning ticket,” Natrice Hudson, 39, told the cashier at a Citgo convenience store along Biscayne Boulevard hours before the drawing.

Hudson, of Hallandale, said she played the game almost weekly in Georgia and was excited to buy her first Powerball ticket in Florida.

“It’s an exciting game,” she said. “I haven’t won anything yet, but you just never know. Maybe today will be my day.”

She said she knows the odds are against her, but added that players have to keep trying the game.

Javier Gonzalez of North Miami Beach, a 43-year-old newcomer to the game, said he thought he should give it a try.

“I didn’t know it was coming until I saw it on the news,” he said after buying his ticket. “We were sitting on the couch at home and I thought, Why don’t we go out and get one and see what happens?”

Melissa Dimieri, 21, has been selling tickets at the gas station near 151st Street and said the game had been causing a bit of a stir.

“People are excited about the opportunity to win more money,” she said. “There are also more ways to win with the Powerball than with the Lotto.”

Dimieri said she’d had to learn how the game works to explain it to Floridians who had never played.

“It will take a little bit of time for them to get used to,” she said. “I will get halfway through explaining how it works when they say, ‘Just give me a quick pick.’”

More than $7 million in tickets were sold in Florida, said Amanda Marquardt, a spokeswoman at the Florida Lottery. Of that, more than $3 million is going to the Education Enhancement Trust Fund.

“I think it is a good start for the new game,” Marquardt said. “Florida players really embraced it, and we hope it will grow.”
